The job

The brewer operates and maintains the brewhouse and its equipment, with no employees under his or her responsibility. He or she is responsible for the entire beer production process, from the initial recipe to bottling/canning and everything in between.

Main tasks

CELLAR :

Tends to the fermentations in progress (sampling, density calculation, extraction, etc.)
Dry hopping, fruit addition, yeast collection
Mills grain
Cleans and fills casks
CIP of fermenters and holding tanks
Sanitation of the holding tanks
Transfers of filtered or unfiltered product
Sees to the carbonation and to the preparation of refermentation
General cleaning duties (floors, drains, tank exteriors, skips, hop and yeast refrigerators)
Compiles and records data

BREWHOUSE :

Brews the recipes of the Dieu Du Ciel! portfolio and develops new ideas
Performs brewhouse tasks (milling, mashing, separation, extraction, boiling, cooling and transferring)
Sanitizes the fermenter and the exchanger
Performs yeast counting and the inoculation process
Performs CIP of brewery equipment
General cleaning duties (floor, laboratory area and exterior of brewing tanks)
Contributes to the maintenance of safety standards, cleanliness, the organization and tidiness of the brewery
Performs various weekly follow-ups
Compiles and records data
Performs rigorous, gustatory quality checks at each step of the brewing and packaging process

Qualifications required

STUDIES / EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years brewing experience
Either enrolled in or having completed CEGEP or equivalent
Studies in brewing science or a similar discipline an asset
Knowledge and awareness of the Quebec brewing industry as well as national and international trends

Mechanical knowledge and abilities related to brewing and packaging
Physical able to lift heavy loads (50L kegs, sacs of grain, etc.)
A responsible approach to alcohol consumption

Work schedule

Permanent full-time; 35 to 40 hours per week, variable schedule that may include weekends
Must be available during the day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and occasionally in the evenings and weekends for special events
Occasional extended shifts / overtime
